NAVRO club house construction 36

Alblasserdam, 18 May, 2008 - Since the last article in this series some small jobs were done, like filling the flower planters behind the club house. Sunday 18 May the electrical connection to the container was finished, after being prepared the last weeks. Also a temporary light was connected. Peter Heeren too had been busy that day. Assisted by Pleun Punt, he kitted seams, cracks and holes in the wall panels. The gaps between the corner of the window frame and the threshold needed the most attention. One last panel in the workshop was finally painted white today, almost a year after the rest of the workshop.

Sunday 25 May plants and debris in the gap around the large concrete slab were removed and the stones in it were levelled. This was done to prepare it to be filled with concrete. This day Fred van Arkel did a test piece of a few meters and finished it in the rain. Meanwhile inside Pleun Punt had started painting the skirting board below the recently painted panel in the workshop. He also touched up some bad patches and missed spots on the skirting boards elsewhere.

Wednesday evening 28 May, while some were hard at work, the others trying to direct each other how to erect our party tent, which was done the first time. Fred van Arkel continued with his concrete plans and Pleun Punt removed much vegetation from the concrete slab to the side of our club house.

Sunday 1 June Fred van Arkel and Pleun Punt started making a new ramp onto the concrete slab. Sunday 15 June they finished the concrete works by making the corner piece of the ramp. Peter Heeren test fitted the front door step, but it was decided to strengthen it more, so he took it home again. After sticking a "Toilets" sign to the toilet door, the air-conditioning was unpacked to check it and make a list of supplies what was needed to install it the next Wednesday.

Wednesday 18 June started earlier than usual to install the air-conditioning. Peter Heeren and Fred van Arkel started, but were soon assisted by others. After the mounting frame of the inside unit was screwed to the wall the exact spot where the hole should be drilled could be determined. Soon the inside unit was hung on its frame. Next the outside unit was placed and connected. Finally the piping and cables were covered over. Peter Heeren also refitted the front door step.
